My passion for collaborative law stems from my own personal experience with a litigated divorce and witnessing the extensive damage that can occur to families emotionally as well as financially when a lawsuit becomes adversarial. While no divorce is considered to be pleasant, the collaborative option can be a more agreeable alternative to dispute resolution that allows each participant to be an active and invested participant with a large degree of control over many aspects of their case. While the collaborative process may not be the ideal option for everyone, should you and your partner desire to move forward in a way that is honoring of your time spent together, the family, community and property you have cultivated, along with a sincere desire to problem-solve instead of blame, the collaborative process may be a good fit for you.
As a Mental Health Professional with specific training in working with couples in the facilitation of healthy communication skills, my goal is to utilize my past experiences and training to assist you in moving forward with a divorce that focuses on minimizing conflict and coming to agreements. While engaged as a neutral professional, my role as the Communications Facilitator in your collaborative divorce will be to assist you and your partner in communicating and behaving in respectful ways that promote reaching a settlement while meeting as many of each person’s individual needs and interests as possible. However, before the decision is made to move forward, you should spend some time learning about your different options and how well the collaborative process would serve you and your partner as well as your family as a whole.
